HI everyonei have a bootcamp drive running (windows 7 home) I use thiis for a specific music software. Im out of room on that drive, and instead of reformating, i decided to buy a external usb drive. A Western Digital WDBACW0020HBK-NESN.I only bought this to use under bootcamp, because I need the room for music samples.Im concerned this external drive wont work now.(I havnt recieved it yet) because its USB 3.0 is there a way to updata the drivers for the macbook pro current USB. Under bootcamp?thanks.
Hatesonion wrote:hi. I already installed bootcamp. It running., but im almost out of space. There is a difference between Boot Camp and the Boot Camp drivers. The drivers are needed in order to work with the drive. You install those by booting to Windows, then inserting the disks that came with your mac.i wont know if the firewire is working in windows u ntil I get the frive i guess. If you've already installed the drivers, then the external Firewire drive will work. You may need to format it to something Windows compatible (i.e.: FAT32 or NTFS.) But otherwise, there'd be nothing more for you to do.

This may not work with bootcampDoes not matter. Just boot to Windows, attach drive, then user Disk Management to change to FAT32 or NTFS, if it is not already so. If you want to use the drive with both OSX and Windows, make it FAT32.BTW, re-formatting such a large drive make take a while.
Using the unique interface is straightforward. It has many useful options to have one format images in your Image list. Daylite keygen.
I don't remember how long my 3TB drive took using FW800, but one of my client's used USB2 and it was several hours. (Basically overnight.) So if you have to reformat, be patient. This is what it says:Formatted HFS+ Journaled Works out of the box with your Mac OS X Leopard or Snow Leopard system. Can easily be reformatted to work with Windows XP, Vista, or 7-wouldnt i want NTFS is faster? I actually would like to install programs to that drive and run them from it if possible. Specifically this large music programs with gigs of samplesDo you know of a better drive.
That will run on firewire 800 3tb that is ready to go 'out of the box' for windows and OS X? Wouldnt i want NTFS is faster?OSX can't write to NTFS. (Read-only.) If you only plan to use the drive with Windows, then yes, NTFS is an option. (Or if you install something like Paragon NTFS or Tuxera NTFS on the Mac side.)Do you know of a better drive. That will run on firewire 800 3tb that is ready to go 'out of the box' for windows and OS X?Not really.

The only way it can be 'out of the box for both' is if it's formatted FAT32. You get file size limits with FAT32, so it depends on whether you can live with the limits or not. (And FAT32 is probably not the most efficient for a 3TB drive.)Me personally, I do NOT make multiple partitions on my external drives. Not that partitions are bad, but I've found that it gets too complicated for the work I do. And I've had one too many instances where I accidentally deleted the wrong partition. (Like I said, too complicated.) So instead, I use Tuxera NTFS so I can write to NTFS drives.
But, I do NOT use those NTFS drives a lot on the Mac side. I'm usually copying a large file to the NTFS drive from a HFS drive. Copying a 20GB virtual machine from the Mac to an external NTFS drive) and then use the NTFS drive in either Boot Camp or on a PC. For extending my OSX side, I have a second external drive formated HFS. But that's just my workflow and YMMV, of course. (I also feel better that I don't have all my eggs in one basket, so to speak.
